Mercury

Mercury is the only metal that is liquid at room temperature

Mercury has been know since ancient times but was found in 3500 year old Egyptian tombs by Chinese and Hindus. Mercury's name came to be because of it's speed and mobility, just like the  characteristics of the roman god, Mercury who served as a messenger to all the other gods. It's presence can be proven by looking for any metal molecules that can be stuck in cells.

Mercury is most commonly found as an element but is also in many different compounds, such as:
Mercury's atomic structure is very complicated!
Mercuric Chloride (CIHgCI),  Mercuric Oxide (HgO), Mercuric Thiocyanate (Hg(SCN)2).

Mercury's atomic structure is a little complicated-there are 80 protons in the nucleus along with 121 neutrons. Around the nucleus, on the valence rings, there are 80 electrons. Because of its reactions it is in period 6 and is in group 12 because it is metal and has a high volitilaty.

Mercury used for dental tools, thermometers, barometers, some mirrors, and mercury batteries. Its's gaseous form can be used for mercury-vapor lamps that light highways at night.

It's atomic number is 30, and it's boiling point is at 674.1 F! The atomic mass of Mercury is 200.59 amu.
